Updates to How You Save and Share

We’ve refreshed the way you save and share your work, and we want to make sure you feel confident using the redesigned features. This article will walk you through what’s changing and answer some frequently asked questions.

If you have any questions along the way, we’re here to help at support@desmos.com.

What's Changed?

You can still save and share graphs, attempt to recover your work, and access example graphs using the new interface. Now, you can try out some additional capabilities, too.

Accessing Saved Work

You can still click Open Graph or press CTRL + O (Windows) or CMD + O (Mac) to open your saved graphs. Now, this action will open up a new Saved Graphs interface. There, you can access your saved graphs across the Graphing, Geometry, and 3D Calculators all in one place.

When you open the Saved Graphs view, your work will appear in a grid layout, and the graphs will automatically be sorted by last edit date. You can switch between a grid and a list layout. When you are viewing your graphs in a list, you can sort them by last edit date or their names.

You can also now group your saved graphs into folders. To create a folder, open the dropdown menu next to New Graph and select New Folder.

To move a graph into a folder, click the three dots to the right of the graph tile and select Move. Then, select the desired folder. You can also select multiple graphs at once and drag them into a folder for faster organization.

From this window, you can also still search for graphs by name and access example graphs.

Animation showing the Save Graph Viewing Window, toggles between filtering by tool, then shows the example graphs by tool and how to get a new graph.

Saving Your Graphs

Previous Version

Whenever you made changes to your graph, the Save button would appear. Clicking the button would generate a new link to your graph.

Updated Version

The Save button will still appear whenever you edit your work. The first time you press Save, you’ll generate a persistent link to your graph. This means that each time you press Save, the link will stay the same. So, you can update your graph, and anyone with a link to that graph can reload the page to see your changes without you sending a new link.

Sharing Your Graphs

Previous Version

Whenever you saved a graph, you’d generate a unique link each time. So, when you’d select Share Graph, you’d share a new link each time you wanted someone else to have access to the latest version of your work.

Updated Version

Now, you can share your graphs in two ways.

If you just want to send a link to your graph without saving it to your account, click Share a Snapshot or press CTRL + SHIFT + S (Windows) or CMD + SHIFT + S (Mac).

You can’t edit or delete a snapshot. If you think you'll want to change the graph later, use the Save and Share This Graph option instead.

Frequently Asked Questions

If someone else has a link to my graph, will the changes I make update live?
No, people cannot see your changes unless you save those changes. Your graph will only update when you hit Save.
If I share my saved graph with someone, and they save their own changes, will my original graph change?
No, this update does not introduce any graph collaboration. If someone saves any changes, they’ll save a copy of the graph to their account without impacting yours.
Will my graphs save automatically when I make changes?
No, you still need to save your graph each time you make changes. Otherwise, you might lose your progress.
Is a snapshot the same as a screenshot?
No, a snapshot is still an interactive graph. It simply won’t update when you or someone else edits the original graph.
Will my snapshots get saved to my account?
No, they’ll only exist in the links you generate and can’t be edited or deleted later.
Will people be able to tell whether I send them a saved graph or a snapshot
Yes, snapshot graphs will feature a snapshot icon next to the graph name. Standard saved graphs will not feature any icon.
I’m a teacher, and I have my students turn in Desmos graphs for assignments. Will they be able to change their work after a deadline?
It depends on which type of graph you have your students share. If you’d like to make sure they can’t change their work after a deadline, have them send you a link to a snapshot of their graphs. This way, the link won’t update with any changes they might make after submission. Additionally, we recommend you save any submitted graphs (snapshots or not) to your account and organize them all into a folder for easy tracking.
